Elementary School

The school day officially begins at 7:55 a.m. and ends at 3:10 p.m. Students should not arrive at school before 7:30 a.m. and must be picked up or leave the premises by 3:30 p.m. unless they are participating in activities. Elementary school students are not to go over to the high school or linger on the playground. The playground will be closed for students from dismissal until 3:45 p.m. The lunch period for elementary school students is 11:00 – 11:30 a.m.

Middle/High School

The school day officially begins at 7:55 a.m. and ends at 3:10 p.m.  Students should not arrive at school before 7:30 a.m.  Students are to be picked up or leave the premises by 3:30 p.m. unless they are participating in activities.  Students in activities should leave within 15 minutes after the sponsor or coach dismisses them.

Healthy, hot lunches are available for all St. John’s students. Note that the lunch period is closed to visitors and guests. If providing your own lunch, please do not purchase meals from restaurants or fast food establishments.

Fees and deposits for school lunches are tracked within your Powerschool account. Information regarding free or reduced-price lunch benefits through the Child Nutrition Program are available at the link below or may be requested from lunch room staff.

Special Occasion Treats/School Snacks

Treats for special occasions (e.g. birthdays) may be brought into the classroom by making prior arrangements with the classroom teacher. Healthy treats are encouraged and the end of the school day is typically the best time of day to do so.

Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) Outreach

Just as learning does not end when school lets out, neither does the need for good nutrition.  The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) provides free, nutritious meals and snacks to help children in low-income areas get the nutrition they need to learn, play, and grow, throughout the summer months when they are out of school.

2025-26 School Handbook

St. John’s Catholic School dances are events which reflect the philosophy of our school and the teachings of the Catholic Church.  It is the school’s responsibility to ensure that the conduct of its students and their guests reflects responsibility, modesty, and dignity.

Admittance to the dance, with consideration of attire, will be left to the discretion of the faculty/administration sponsors who are present that evening. Attire that is inappropriate for the occasion or deviates from modesty in the judgment of a school administrator may result in being denied admission. If a student is in doubt as to the expected modesty of his or her chosen attire, he or she should consult with administration before the dance.

The following policy will be enforced for any school-sponsored dances/activities:

1. The club or organization sponsor and the principal shall have the direct responsibility for the dance/activity.
2. If a band or disc jockey is to play, a formal written contract must be approved by the sponsor and signed by the principal.
3. The length of the dance/activity will be determined by the sponsor and administration.
4. Intoxicating beverages and drugs will not be permitted in the dance/activity.
5. Students are to remain in the building until they are ready to leave for the evening. A student will NOT be readmitted to the dance/activity if they leave and try to return. For sufficient reason, the sponsor or administration may grant permission for the student to leave and return.
6. The sponsor and/or principal shall have the right to refuse admittance of anyone who does not meet the dress requirements for a particular dance/activity and shall have the right to ask anyone to leave if their behavior is not acceptable.
7. Only St. John’s students and their dates, ages 20 and under, will be permitted to attend.

HOMECOMING

Each year in the fall, a vote will be taken by students and faculty to nominate three senior girls and three senior boys to be homecoming candidates. The week leading up to the Homecoming dance includes Spirit Week with themed dress-up days, a pep rally and a Homecoming football game with king and queen crowning.

PROM

A mandatory parent meeting will be held in January to discuss prom expectations and dress code. If a parent is unable to attend the meeting, they must make arrangements to meet with the junior class sponsor and/or administration prior to their child attending prom.

Technology Use Policy

Cell Phones

The use of cell phones and other electronic devices, in general, are often a distraction to, and can be a trivialization of, academic and student life. Cell phones, ear buds, smart watches or other personal technology devices are not to be used on school grounds during the hours of 7:30 a.m. -3:30 p.m. unless given permission in advance by a classroom teacher for a specified project or activity. Students are not to have their devices in their pockets or on their person during these hours and should leave them turned off in their car or locker.

Elementary School Drop-Off/Pickup

Elementary students should be dropped off at the west doors of the elementary school via the parking lot. For the safety of our students, the parking lot will be closed after 8:30 a.m. Students may be picked up from school at the following locations:

• Parking stalls north of the elementary school
• Along the street on the south side of the playground
• Church parking lot

High School Student Parking

Students’ cars are to be parked in the parking lots south and west of the high school, or on South Street, from the opening of school until the closing of the school day. Parking on Cherry and Court Streets is reserved for faculty and visitors. Note that the area immediately in front of the high school south doors must remain open per fire regulations

The St. John's Catholic Schools uniform dress policy has been designed for a number of reasons:

1. To promote an atmosphere of discipline and learning to enhance academic achievement. 
2. In keeping with the school's mission to prepare students to be good Catholic citizens, gaining a sense of appropriate dress is essential to the learning and growing process. 
3. Uniforms foster a sense of community and equality by providing an equal socioeconomic footing for all.

Elementary Students

• Pants: blue jeans, khaki, navy, gray, or black pants
• Shorts: blue jeans, khaki, navy, gray, or black shorts
• Skirts: blue jean, khaki, navy, gray, black, or royal/blue/black plaid skirts.
• Predominately black, navy, royal, or gray nylon warm-up pants or athletic shorts. 

Middle School and High School Students

• Pants: blue jeans, khaki, navy, gray, or black.
• Shorts: blue jeans, khaki, navy, gray, or black shorts.
• Skirts: blue jeans, khaki, navy, gray, or black skirts.
• Middle school and high school students may not wear warm-up pants or athletic shorts.
