The ACT is an entrance exam used by most colleges and universities to make admissions decisions. It is a multiple-choice, pencil-and-paper test administered by ACT, Inc. The purpose of the ACT test is to measure a high school student's readiness for college and provide colleges with one common data point that can be used to compare all applicants.

St. John's administers the ACT to all juniors (at no cost) in the spring semester. Students may also take the ACT at designated testing centers at their own expense. For more information, testing dates, and testing registration deadlines, go to: https://www.act.org

ACT Testing Resources:

St. John’s juniors, in cooperation with other area schools, are given the opportunity to take the ACT Prep Course each fall. In addition, ACT provides a number of resources to help examinees prepare to take the ACT test, including the opportunity to take a practice test in an online format.  You can access those resources at this link: ACT Practice Test

PreACT:

St. John's administers the PreACT to all freshmen and sophomores in the fall semester. The PreACT  offers students an early experience with ACT test items, provides a predicted ACT test score, and offers a wealth of information to help students get the start they need to be college ready. 

Elementary students experiencing difficulties reading, writing, and spelling, have had great success working with St. John’s trained staff in the Alphabetic Phonics program. This phonetic program teaches reading, handwriting, spelling, verbal and written expression and comprehension by simultaneously engaging the visual, auditory and kinesthetic modalities. Students are referred to the program via their classroom teacher.

ARK is a comprehensive assessment tool designed to measure and enhance the religious knowledge and beliefs of students.  It assesses student knowledge across three domains: Sacraments & Liturgy, The Creed & Salvation History, Morality, Prayer, Virtue, and Living Discipleship.

St. John’s utilizes FastBridge, a web-based assessment, data management, and reporting system designed specifically to screen and monitor the reading and math skills of K – 8th grade students. FastBridge's valid and reliable assessments help educators identify students' academic and social-emotional behavior (SEB) needs faster, align the right interventions at the right time, and measure whether interventions are helping students catch up-all in one platform and in up to half the test time.

The ITBS is a nationally administered set of exams for 3rd – 8th grade students designed to assess abilities in Language Arts, Reading, Math, Science and Social Sciences.

The Kansas Assessment Program includes a variety of instructional tools and tests for grades 3 - 12 that measure skills in English language arts, mathematics, science and history, government, and social studies.

The PSAT is a predictive assessment of a student's strengths and weaknesses when considering post-secondary options. The PSAT is a National Merit Scholarship qualifying test and is administered to 11th grade students who choose to participate.

Xello is an engaging online program that helps students build knowledge, skills, and plans for future success. Through self-knowledge, exploration, and planning, students better understand who they are, their academic and career options, and the steps they’ll need to take to achieve their goals.  St. John's students use Xello for career awareness and exploration in grades 6-12 as part of their Individual Plans of Study process.
