Here is some important information that might be helpful for you to know: 

 

Activities

ADMISISON FEES - MS/HS students get into ball games free as part of their fees at enrollment.

DRIVING TO SCHOOL ACTIVITIES - Parents/guardians are required to help transport students to various sporting and extracurricular events. When it is your turn to drive, other family members are not to ride along. Only you as the driver, and the students and coaches you are taking, are to be in the vehicle. Other arrangements are to be made for family members.

  • All parents/guardians must meet all the driving requirements to become an approved driver before they can transport students. More information about this can be found in the "Driver Qualifications" section on the "Get Involved" page.
  • If a student is riding home with their parent/guardian after a game or activity, the parent/guardian must sign out their student with the coach or sponsor of the activity and notify the driver as well. 

CONCESSION STAND – All families (parents and students) are required to take their turn working in the concession stand during football, volleyball, and basketball season. If you cannot work the given date you are assigned, you are responsible to find a replacement or switch dates with another family. Volleyball and basketball games can start as early as 3:00, and football games usually need workers by 5:30. If possible, it is best not to have younger siblings in the concession stand.

SPORTS MEETINGS - Each sport will have an athlete/parent meeting held at the beginning of each sport season. These meetings are held in the evening at the HS.

BALL GAMES - On occasion, the MS and HS ball games are played on different courts or fields and/or in different towns. 

  • Pike Valley: 
    • MS/HS volleyball and football are played in Scandia
    • MS/HS basketball is played in Courtland
  • Thunder Ridge:
    • MS volleyball, football and basketball are played in Agra
    • HS volleyball, football and basketball are played in Kensington

ST. JOHN'S HOME TRACK MEETS – 

  • MS track meet – The MS meet starts at 9 a.m. Students do not report to the school that day but report to the track for school. All MS and HS students help work the meet. When the meet is over, students will need to be picked up at the Beloit track.  
  • HS track meet – The HS meet starts at 3:00. Students are dismissed at 2:15 to report to the track. All MS and HS students not out for track will be assigned to work at an event or in the concession stand.

MS SCHOLAR'S BOWL – Mr. Lueger sponsors the scholars’ bowl programs for MS and HS. The MS scholars’ bowl season usually begins the week after the MS basketball league tournament and goes until the first or second week of March.

 

Academics

MS/HS COMMUNICATION – Communication to parents in the MS/HS is less than parents are used to in the GS. In the MS/HS, students are responsible to communicate information to parents. Please ask your child a lot of questions and train them to come home and tell you what's going on (e.g.cake raffle, sports info, school activities, pass the buck, no uniform day, dance, etc.) On occasion, notes are given to students or put into their lockers to go home to parents. 

PARENT ORIENTATION - The school will have a parent orientation during the first full week of school.  Individual teachers will address classroom procedures and answer questions.

CALCULATORS –

  • 6th grade: no calculators
  • 7th grade: Scientific Calculator allowed
  • 8th grade: Scientific Calculator allowed or Graphing Calculator
  • High School: TI-84 or 84+ Graphing Calculator

 

Fundraisers

PARISH BAKE SALE - All families are required to either work a shift for the bake sale, give a $20 donation, or bring items to sell. We have some families that do two or three of these options. We welcome all help. We encourage families to work a shift and bring items to sell, if possible.

CAKE RAFFLE - Each class takes a turn at providing baked goods for the cake raffle held during the MS & HS basketball games. The money raised is used to grow the individual class funds. These funds are mainly needed and used for student’s junior and senior years for planning prom and graduation.  Each class has a teacher as their class sponsor. Some class sponsors will notify parents of the date of their class cake raffle.

PASS THE BUCK - Various groups will host a breakfast and provide breakfast items for $1.00 an item. The proceeds go to a chosen cause. Serving usually starts at 7:15 a.m., and students arrive early to purchase their breakfast items. This is available for MS and HS students and is held in the MS/HS hallway.

 

Student Life

 UNIFORMS - There are used uniforms available at the elementary school. 

DRESS CODE - Hoodies are not to be worn during school hours. There are plenty of long sleeve options in the dress code such as jackets, sweatshirts, and three-quarter zip sweatshirts. Only school approved jackets can be worn in the hallways or classrooms.

NO UNIFORM DAY - On occasion, students earn a day to wear something other than their uniform. The clothing must be within the handbook policy.

LOST AND FOUND – There is a lost and found, but it is very helpful if uniform shirts and jackets are labeled.

ALL SCHOOL MASS - Students are expected to sit with their class during Mass--not with their parents/grandparents.

HOMECOMING – During the week of homecoming, the MS/HS students have a dress-up theme for each day of the week. Students are encouraged to participate. Prizes are given out for the “best costume” for each day. Winners are announced at the pep rally on Friday. If a student chooses not to dress up, a uniform should be worn.
